Israel’s Army Radio reported that the Israeli military has voiced concerns that UNIFIL may be leaking sensitive military and intelligence information to Hezbollah. According to the report, senior defense officials believe that the peacekeeping force’s activities have raised questions inside the army regarding the handling of classified material in southern Lebanon.
The broadcaster quoted a high-ranking Israeli officer describing UNIFIL as “a destabilizing force” that, in Israel’s view, does not contribute to curbing Hezbollah’s military presence in the area.
Army Radio added that, from the military’s perspective, the situation would improve if UNIFIL were to end its mission and withdraw from the region sooner rather than later.
