Mahfoud from Maarab: Lebanon will be exposed if the State stands still

Lebanese Forces Party leader Samir Geagea received in Maarab the head of the Change Movement, Elie Mahfoud, in the presence of the party's media and communications department head, Charles Jabbour.
Following the meeting, Mahfoud stated that his visit to Geagea came "on one of the great days in the history of beautiful Lebanon, as it coincided with an exceptional and unconventional visit by the greatest figure in the world, His Holiness the Pope." He affirmed that the Pope's visit entails numerous changes on various levels, foremost of which is the restoration of the state's authority and sovereignty over all Lebanese territory.
Cautioning against any failure to grab the opportunities, Mahfoud believed that "the country will become exposed to various threats after this exceptional visit to Lebanon if the state is unable to seize the initiatives." He added that if the state fails to absorb the messages clearly indicating that things should move towards extending the authority of the state, then Lebanon will be facing a major problem that could lead it to disasters if this government does not know how to act properly.
Referring to the role of Lebanese institutions and the state, he underlined the importance of proving their presence, given the deep crisis of confidence between citizens and the authorities. "What is needed today is to reach a stage where the performance of the authorities is not a theatrical performance, but rather a serious and responsible approach...The state must not be afraid to advance and engage in the battle to reclaim its authority over all Lebanese territory," he maintained.
"With great respect to the Lebanese Army, what is happening in the South must be applied to the entire 10,452 square kilometers of Lebanon. The state should not be confined to Aitaroun and Bint Jbeil, nor to Andaket, Qoubaiyat, Ashrafieh, and Jounieh, but rather to the entire national territory. This requires courage and responsibility," Mahfoud underlined.
He stressed that "restoring the state and enforcing the law will not lead to a civil war at any time or under any circumstances."
