U.S. Ambassador to Lebanon Michel Issa revealed, after meeting with Foreign Minister Youssef Raggi, that there are “ongoing contacts regarding Lebanese Army Commander Rodolph's Haykal return visit to Washington.”
Expressing his belief that “the visit will take place,” he noted that “things are becoming clearer with regard to the Army Commander’s trip to Washington, but nothing has been finalized yet.”
Responding to a question, Issa said he had “no information regarding any discussion about bringing Syria and Lebanon together.”
On the meetings of the Mechanism committee, Issa commented: “We did not expect peace to come out of the first session. The parties need to sit together first, and then put what they have on the table.”
