A joint Omani–Lebanese statement was released on Wednesday following two rounds of talks in Muscat between Sultan Haitham bin Tariq and Lebanese President Joseph Aoun, who is currently on an official visit to Oman. The statement highlighted the shared commitment of both countries to deepen their relationship and broaden cooperation in political, economic, investment, banking, tourism, transportation, and logistics fields.

The Sultan and President Aoun agreed to begin early preparations for the first meeting of the Omani–Lebanese Joint Committee, to be chaired by the two foreign ministers in Muscat. They stressed the importance of working toward new agreements and memoranda of understanding that would strengthen cooperation and expand trade, cultural exchange, and scientific collaboration. Both leaders also encouraged a larger role for the private sector to take advantage of emerging opportunities for partnership and development.

In their discussions, the two sides called for an immediate halt to Israeli attacks on Lebanon and urged a complete withdrawal from all Lebanese and Arab territories that remain under occupation. They expressed support for international efforts aimed at preventing further escalation, stabilizing the situation, ensuring the safe return of displaced persons, and advancing reconstruction.

Rooted in the deep and historic bonds between the Sultanate of Oman and the Lebanese Republic, and in the commitment of both leaderships to strengthen cooperation and reinforce the values of solidarity, President Joseph Aoun conducted an official visit to Oman from 9 to 10 December 2025 as the honored guest of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tariq.

Official talks were held during the visit, during which the two leaders reviewed the strong relationship between the two countries and reaffirmed their determination to expand cooperation in political, economic, investment, banking, tourism, transport, and logistics sectors for the benefit of both peoples. They praised the positive and constructive role played by the Lebanese community in Oman and instructed the relevant authorities to prepare for the first session of the Omani–Lebanese Joint Committee in Muscat. The two leaders emphasized the importance of concluding new agreements that would advance cooperation and support broader exchanges in trade, culture, and science, while enabling the private sector to engage more effectively in shared development opportunities.

Against the backdrop of regional developments, the two sides voiced serious concern over the ongoing Israeli attacks on Lebanese territory and the continued occupation of Arab lands, describing them as clear violations of UN Security Council Resolution 1701 and international law. They called for an immediate end to these attacks, a full withdrawal from all occupied Lebanese and Arab territories, and support for international efforts aimed at preventing escalation, stabilizing conditions on the ground, facilitating the return of displaced persons, and moving forward with reconstruction.

The Omani side reaffirmed its full support for Lebanon’s sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity. It underscored the importance of strengthening Lebanese state institutions — particularly the Lebanese Armed Forces and legitimate security agencies — and reiterated its support for the economic, financial, and administrative reforms being led by the Lebanese government.

Both sides restated the unified Arab position calling for an end to the Israeli occupation and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the basis of the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital. They also stressed the need for Arab solidarity, respect for state sovereignty, good-neighborly relations, and adherence to international law.

President Joseph Aoun expressed his deep appreciation to His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tariq, as well as to the government and people of Oman, for the warm hospitality and generous welcome he received. He wished the Sultanate continued progress and prosperity under its wise leadership.
