Berri voices support for the Army, points to Israeli occupation as limiting factor

Speaker of Parliament Nabih Berri issued a statement supporting the Lebanese Army Command’s statement and praised its achievements, noting that they would have been nearly complete were it not for Israel’s occupation of several positions, its daily violations involving bombardment and destruction, and the obstacles it places in the Army’s path, despite the military not having received the promised capabilities.
Berri warned that Israel’s schemes and ambitions in the south continue, citing not least recent actions targeting UNIFIL forces and calls to end their presence in southern Lebanon, which he said threaten the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701.
He stressed that the south has consistently affirmed its need for the presence and protection of the Lebanese Army.
“Leave our land, vacate our skies, and may God spare the faithful the scourge of war,” the statement concluded.
