Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi arrived in Beirut on Tuesday at the head of an economic delegation, with plans to hold several meetings with Lebanese officials to discuss regional and international issues.
Speaking from Beirut airport, Araghchi warned that the region is facing unprecedented threats, noting that seven countries, including Lebanon and Iran, have been attacked by Israel over the past two years, with parts of Lebanon still under occupation. He also criticized Israel for failing to adhere to the ceasefire agreement in Lebanon, saying he would hold discussions and exchange views with Lebanese officials to address the situation.
Araghchi added that he is scheduled to meet with the Lebanese Foreign Minister to strengthen the already distinguished relations between Lebanon and Iran and explore areas of joint cooperation across various fields. He emphasized that Iran seeks to establish comprehensive relations with Lebanon, based on shared interests and mutual respect, while fully supporting Lebanon’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and unity.
Highlighting economic ties, Araghchi said that bilateral trade between Iran and Lebanon reached $110 million last year, underscoring the potential and opportunities to further enhance cooperation between the two countries.
On regional tensions, he stated that Iran does not seek war but is prepared for it, and is also ready for negotiations with the United States, which, he stressed, must be based on mutual respect.
