Hankash slams Iranian FM visit, calls it a “bad joke”

MP Elias Hankash wrote on X, describing the visit as “a bad joke at the worst possible time,” as Iran’s foreign minister, accompanied by an economic delegation, arrives in what he called a “bankrupt Lebanon” under the banner of economic and trade cooperation.
Hankash said the visit comes from an internationally sanctioned Iranian regime that is collapsing in the face of a popular uprising by an impoverished and repressed people. He also pointed to the role of Iran and its ally in Lebanon in smuggling subsidized goods to Syria and in inciting opposition to the Lebanese state by rejecting the handover of weapons. He added that it is the same regime now presenting itself as a partner in economic cooperation.
