Rasamny meets officials to review civil aviation and airport operations

Minister of Public Works Fayez Rasamny welcomed a delegation representing all airlines operating in Lebanon, headed by the president of the Association of Operating Airlines in Lebanon, Antoine Tabbal. 

The meeting focused on ways to develop Beirut–Rafic Hariri International Airport and strengthen the civil aviation sector. 

Tabbal conveyed the association’s appreciation and thanks to Minister Rasamny for the efforts he is making to develop the airport and advance the aviation sector, reflecting positively on air traffic and the level of services provided to passengers.

For his part, Rasamny presented a brief overview of the steps that led to the establishment of the General Civil Aviation Authority as an independent body tasked with regulating Lebanon’s civil aviation sector, in line with modern frameworks that comply with international standards and enhance governance and transparency. 

Rasamny also referred to ongoing efforts to improve airfares to and from Lebanon, increase Beirut Airport’s capacity, and develop René Mouawad Airport by transforming it into an effective civil facility supporting the sector and expanding air transport options.

The meeting was attended by the president of the General Civil Aviation Authority, Captain Mohammad Aziz, and the minister’s adviser, Dr. Jalal Haidar, who presented an overview of key procedures and measures adopted to develop Lebanon’s civil aviation sector. 

At the conclusion of the meeting, Rasamny thanked the airlines for their continued confidence in Lebanon and their role in facilitating the return and visits of Lebanese expatriates, and extended special thanks to Middle East Airlines for its efforts in serving and developing the Lebanese civil aviation sector.

Rasamny also received a delegation of senior Airport Security officials headed by Brigadier General Fadi Kfoury, including Brigadier Ezzat Al-Khatib from the Internal Security Forces, Colonel Georges Dagher from General Security, and Major Walid Sleika and Major Reda Hamza from Lebanese Customs, in the presence of Captain Mohammad Aziz and Dr. Jalal Haidar. Discussions focused on airport operational matters and ways to enhance coordination among the relevant agencies.

In addition, Rasamny met Acting Director General of Customs Raymond Khoury, with talks covering border crossings and Beirut Port, customs’ needs in terms of buildings and equipment, and mechanisms for cooperation among the concerned authorities to improve performance and enhance operational efficiency.
