Salam Highlights Women’s Leadership in Meeting with UN Women Director

Prime Minister Nawaf Salam received the UN Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director of UN Women, Dr. Sima Bahous, with an accompanying delegation.
The UN Official expressed her appreciation for "the continuous support provided by His Excellency the Prime Minister to enhance women's participation at the ministerial, political, economic and social levels."
During the meeting, emphasis was made on the need to "advance gender-sensitive policies and combat all forms of violence against women, including digital violence aimed at silencing, excluding and discouraging women from participating in public life."
For his part, Premier Salam praised "the vital role played by UN Women in supporting and empowering women across various Lebanese regions," underscoring "the importance of programs that promote women's participation in recovery and reconstruction efforts, particularly in the South, in a manner that ensures their effective and meaningful engagement at all levels."
Premier Salam also affirmed that "strengthening women’s leadership role is a fundamental pillar in Lebanon's recovery process and the building of its future."
On the other hand, Premier Salam received, in the presence of Deputy Prime Minister Dr. Tarek Mitri, a delegation that included the regional directors of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund and the World Food Programme.
The regional directors affirmed "the UN agencies’ commitment to supporting the national priorities of the Lebanese government and to working together to reach sustainable solutions to the Syrian refugee crisis," stressing "the continuation of cooperation in the areas of education, health and protection, in a way that safeguards the rights of refugees and facilitates their reintegration into their homeland."
For his part, Premier Salam underscored "the importance of cooperation and coordination among the various international agencies, and the need to align their programs with the Lebanese government's plans and priorities, and to remian continuously informed of these plans."
