US President Donald Trump confirmed that he had decided to cancel a planned military strike against Iran, stressing that the decision was made on his own initiative and not as a result of pressure from other parties.
Responding to a question about whether officials from other countries had persuaded him not to carry out the strike, Trump said, “No one convinced me. I convinced myself. They canceled the executions, and that had a very big impact.”
He explained that Tehran had suspended the execution of more than 800 people that had been scheduled for Thursday, saying the move played a decisive role in his decision. “They were going to execute more than 800 people yesterday, and I greatly respect their decision to cancel that,” he added.
Asked whether the “assistance” was still on its way to Iran, Trump said, “We’ll see what happens.”
Trump also wrote on his personal account on the Truth Social platform, “I greatly appreciate the Iranian leadership’s decision to cancel all scheduled executions. Thank you.”
