Chilly Days in Lebanon Before the Rain Returns
1/19/2026 11:00:00 AM
The Forecasting Department of the Meteorological Service at the Directorate General of Civil Aviation expects stable weather to prevail over Lebanon and the eastern Mediterranean basin, with some light fluctuations inland and temperatures below seasonal averages. Therefore, caution is advised regarding the formation of ice on mountain and inland roads, continuing until Thursday afternoon, when Lebanon will be affected by a low-pressure system leading to a drop in temperatures, active winds, and occasionally heavy rain.
The Meteorological Service also warned of ice formation on mountain and inland roads starting Sunday night/Monday and cautioned farmers about the effects of frost on crops, particularly in the Bekaa Valley, from Monday night/Tuesday until Wednesday morning. Preventive measures are recommended.
Expected Weather in Lebanon:
Monday: Partly cloudy with fog over the highlands and some fluctuations, especially inland, leading to light rain. Temperatures will be below seasonal averages with cold northern winds. There is a warning for ice formation and slippery conditions on mountain roads above 1000 meters during the night and early morning hours.
Tuesday: Mostly clear to partly cloudy with cold weather due to prevailing northern winds, occasionally reaching speeds of 45 km/h. Temperatures will rise slightly but remain below seasonal averages, with a chance of scattered light rain inland. The warning for ice on mountain roads remains in effect during early morning and nighttime hours, starting from elevations of 1200 meters.
Wednesday: Generally cloudy with high and medium clouds, temperatures rising close to but still below seasonal averages. Eastern winds will occasionally pick up in southern Lebanon at night.
Thursday: Generally cloudy with high and medium clouds, with a noticeable rise in temperatures above seasonal averages. Active winds may reach 75 km/h. Humidity will increase starting in the afternoon, clouds will gradually thicken, and scattered rain is expected to intensify at night with thunder and lightning. Snowfall is expected from elevations of 1800 meters and above.
Additional Details:
Surface winds: northwesterly to northerly, active, 10–40 km/h
Visibility: Good along the coast; locally poor in northern highlands due to morning fog
Relative humidity on the coast: 55–75%
Sea state: Rough
Sea surface temperature: 19°C
Atmospheric pressure: 1022 hPa (767 mmHg)
Sunrise: 06:42
Sunset: 16:57
