MP Inaya Ezzedine, Chair of the parliamentary Women and Children Committee, contacted Minister of Economy and Trade Amer Bisat to stress the need to verify the safety of baby formula available on the Lebanese market. The move followed reports that three major global dairy companies had withdrawn products from dozens of countries after toxic contamination was detected, raising public concern in Lebanon.
Ezzedine underscored the urgency of taking immediate measures to ensure the safety of food products intended for children, particularly infant formula, warning that the issue is directly linked to Lebanon’s food security and cannot be treated lightly.
For his part, Minister Bisat acknowledged the seriousness of the matter and confirmed that he had referred it to the Consumer Protection Directorate to take the necessary steps, emphasizing the need for rapid follow-up given the potential health risks involved.
