Prime Minister Nawaf Salam met at the Grand Serail with a delegation from the World Bank, including regional director Jean-Christophe Carret and Lebanon country manager Enrique Blanco Armas.
Talks reportedly focused on progress in implementing World Bank–funded projects, with particular emphasis on the LEAP reconstruction program, and on setting priorities for the next phase.
The delegation also reviewed the World Bank’s recent approval of two loans to Lebanon totaling USD 350 million.
Discussions covered prospects for future support, notably in improving the energy sector, strengthening regional and international connectivity and transport, and boosting private-sector participation in upcoming public investments.
The World Bank delegation announced an upcoming visit by Anna Bjerde to deepen dialogue on economic recovery and partnership with Lebanon, and presented the Bank Group’s new guarantees platform aimed at de-risking and stimulating private investment.
Separately, PM Salam met a delegation of contract teachers in public basic education, who presented demands related to wages, transport allowances and equal treatment with public-sector employees. He pledged to follow up on improving pay and amending the transport allowance decree.
Salam also received a delegation from Dar al-Fatwa, headed by Bekaa Mufti Sheikh Ali Ghazzawi, who conveyed Ramadan greetings and praised the prime minister’s positions in support of restoring the role of state institutions.
