Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri received Deputy Head of the Higher Islamic Shiite Council, Sheikh Ali Al-Khatib, at the Second Presidency headquarters in Ain el-Tineh.
The discussion between the pair reportedly touched on the current general situation and the latest political and field developments.
Speaker Berri also reviewed recent developments, as well as national and developmental affairs, during his meeting with Mufti of Baalbek-Hermel, Sheikh Bakr Rifai.
Speaking after the meeting, Mufti Rifai said: "A visit to His Excellency the Speaker always opens broad horizons for discussing the Lebanese situation in particular, and the situation unfolding in the region in general. We also addressed the repeated Israeli attacks targeting our people in the South and extending to other parts of Lebanon, which pose a constant threat to civil peace, despite Lebanon’s full compliance with all the provisions of Resolution 1701."
Mufti Rifai added, "We also addressed the issue of the general amnesty and sought the Speaker’s assistance on this urgent matter,’’ adding that the Speaker expressed full understanding regarding this issue.
This afternoon, Berri received ''Democratic Gathering'' bloc Secretary, MP Hadi Aboul Hessen, with whom he discussed the general situation, the latest political developments, and legislative affairs.
