Prime Minister Nawaf Salam pointed out that “the south is a national concern,” noting that “reconstruction is our responsibility, and we affirm that this commitment is not temporary but ongoing, and we say that the people of the south have an indivisible national right to security, homes, land, and a dignified life.”

Salam added, at a press conference held at Tyre Municipality at the start of his southern tour: “The border towns are still subjected to daily attacks, which is an assault on our dignity, and our visit today affirms that the presence of the state is a message against this reality that we are working to change.”

He also emphasized that “our primary concern is protecting the dignity of the displaced, supporting those returning, and ensuring a better life for the people of the south, and we will not wait for the attacks to stop before starting our work,” pointing out that “our goal is not to abandon people or turn displacement into a permanent fate. I say it clearly: the challenges are great, but we will not retreat, and this strengthens our determination to face and overcome obstacles.”

Salam continued: “We will work on rebuilding the infrastructure, and in Parliament we approved a $250 million World Bank loan, focusing on three areas: continuing relief efforts, reconstruction, and providing conditions for economic and social recovery and development,” stressing that “extending the authority of the state is not only through the presence of the army and the return of security, but also through restoring electricity, schools, hospitals, passable roads, and all aspects of citizens’ daily lives. We will work with the South Council and the Higher Relief Commission to fully rebuild the affected border villages so that they return better than they were.”

He added: “The state is not on a seasonal visit; it will remain present with you, and we will begin rehabilitating roads in Tyre and supporting the agricultural sector.”

He concluded: “There will be another visit to the south, and we apologize to the areas we will not be able to visit.”
