Salam Pledges to Reinforce State Presence in Marjayoun

Prime Minister Nawaf Salam said from Marjayoun's Serail that the government aims to revitalize the Marjayoun casa through development projects, expressing hope that all of Lebanon would reflect the model of the town.
He noted that the state had been largely absent from southern Lebanon between 1943 and 1975, stressing that the government is now determined to restore full state presence in the region.
Salam considered that while the continued role of the Lebanese Army in the south is essential, sovereignty is not achieved by military presence alone but also through the rule of law, strong institutions, and the provision of social protection and public services.
"We are working on integrated tracks, including the continuation of relief efforts, namely sheltering and reconstruction," he said, while emphasizing the seriousness of the state’s return.
For his part, MP Ali Hassan Khalil highlighted the importance of the state’s role in supporting the return of town residents, despite Israeli attempts to undermine life in the frontline villages.
In turn, MP Elias Jaradeh stressed the need for the government to restore the trust of southern residents, while MP Firas Hamdan said Prime Minister Salam’s visit reflects his commitment to maintaining strong ties with the people of the south.
