Fuel Station Syndicate: We faced the same surprise as the public

The Syndicate of Fuel Station Owners in Lebanon announced that it “was surprised last night, just like the Lebanese public, by the Cabinet’s decision to raise the price of a gasoline barrel by LBP 300,000.”

In a statement, the syndicate clarified that “the Cabinet’s recent decision to increase the price by LBP 300,000 per barrel represents customs fees that go entirely to the state treasury and have no connection to fuel station owners,” emphasizing that “the decision was made without any prior consultation with the syndicate or any official body.”

The statement added that “the measure, as issued, deepens the difficulties faced by fuel station owners, has negative repercussions on all goods, and increases their operational costs,” stressing that “the syndicate stands with citizens affected by the decline in purchasing power and urges the relevant authorities to stop repeatedly imposing direct taxes on fuel at every economic crossroads.”
