An unexpected guest stole the spotlight during the women’s sprint relay qualifiers in cross-country skiing at the “Milano Cortina 2026” Winter Olympics in Italy.
As the competition was in full swing, a large dog suddenly appeared on the track and ran alongside the athletes as they approached the finish line, a surprising scene that both amazed and amused the spectators.
The incident did not disrupt the race. On the contrary, the crowd cheered and applauded while the dog continued strolling until it reached the finish line, approaching the skiers as they completed the race.
Greek athlete Konstantina Charalampidou said, “I became famous thanks to a dog crossing the finish line, and now everyone wants to interview me.” She added, “It was chasing the camera moving up and down at the finish line. It was friendly and not aggressive. I wanted to pet it, but I did not have time and could not find it afterward.”
According to multiple reports, the dog was later identified as a Czechoslovakian Wolfdog. It had been taken for a walk by its owner, a local resident, before escaping onto the race track.
