Education Minister Rima Karami toured public schools in South Lebanon alongside representatives of the European Union and UNICEF under the Education Trust Fund (TREF), reaffirming a joint commitment to safeguarding children’s right to education in frontline areas.

During the visit, an additional $570,000 in funding was announced to support 37 conflict-affected schools in the South.

The contribution adds to $13.8 million already allocated this academic year for formal and non-formal education in the South and Nabatieh. Schools were selected based on vulnerability, needs and student enrollment.

Karami stressed that supporting frontline villages is both a duty and a message of respect for the resilience of southern communities, emphasizing that "education cannot wait."

EU Chargé d’Affaires Sami Saadeh described education as a pillar of stability and hope, while UNICEF Representative Marco Luigi Corsi underscored the importance of keeping schools safe and operational even in difficult conditions.

The visit also included distribution of educational supplies to 98 schools, benefiting more than 44,000 students, including textbooks, digital devices and learning materials.
