Prime Minister Nawaf Salam called on “all Lebanese to exercise a sense of national responsibility and put Lebanon’s interests above any other consideration amid the current regional circumstances.”

Salam said that “we are conducting the necessary diplomatic contacts to spare Lebanon from the war and that the government’s duty is to be ready for any emergency, and we have begun taking precautionary measures months ago.”

He reassured the Lebanese, saying: “There is no need for panic, as food, medicines and fuel are available for a period of not less than two months, and there is no need to form queues at gas stations or pharmacies,” adding that “supply lines by land, sea and air are open, and I warn against any price increases. Each minister is following up on all necessary measures to protect markets and ensure their stability.”

He announced that “the public prosecution and the Consumer Protection Directorate are on alert to prevent monopoly attempts and curb violations.”

Asked about the possibility of the U.S. embassy in Beirut being targeted, Salam said: “I have contacted a number of Arab counterparts to express solidarity. I cannot rule out the possibility of foreign embassies in Lebanon being exposed, but the necessary security measures have been taken.”

Regarding flight operations to and from Lebanon, Salam pointed out that “the airport remains open, and some companies have cancelled flights to Lebanon and to other countries, but Middle East Airlines flights are continuing.”
