Education Disrupted: Schools Closed, Universities Under Review

The Ministry of Education and Higher Education issued the following statement:
First: Regarding public schools and secondary schools, Minister Dr. Rima Karami and the educational administration expressed their thanks and appreciation to school principals for their swift response in opening their doors, welcoming families, and helping to shelter them.
The Minister confirmed that public schools, secondary schools, and vocational institutes will remain closed this week until the process of receiving citizens displaced from areas of danger, threat, and destruction is completed.
She reassured parents and students in public schools and institutes that the Ministry is working to make up for missed lessons through an exceptional remote learning program. The program is being prepared by the Ministry in cooperation with the Educational Center for Research and Development and will be made available starting next Monday via the dedicated educational platform.
Second: As for private schools and institutes, given the sensitive security situation and the ongoing danger and instability resulting from the Israeli aggression, the Ministry calls on private educational institutions to avoid in-person teaching until the end of this week. Further statements will be issued to clarify the educational plan for next week.
Third: Regarding private higher education institutions, following consultations with the Association of Lebanese Universities and the President of the Lebanese University, it was agreed to continue in-person teaching. However, universities or their branches, including the Lebanese University, that are located in high-risk areas or whose buildings have been turned into shelter centers may opt to shift fully or partially to remote or blended learning until the situation stabilizes and official instructions are issued for a return to normal teaching.
