The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) expressed serious concern over a recent Israeli Army statement calling for the evacuation of civilians from the mission’s area of operations to north of the Litani River.
In a statement, UNIFIL also noted new rounds of rockets and missiles fired from Lebanese territory into Israel in violation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701.
Peacekeepers observed several Israeli military movements and activities near El Khiam, Beit Lif, Yaroun, Houla, Kfar Kila, Kherbeh and Kfar Shouba, while Israeli airstrikes and aerial operations continued in the area.
UNIFIL stressed that such actions violate Resolution 1701 as well as Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, reaffirming that its peacekeepers remain deployed along the Blue Line and continue to adapt their activities to support humanitarian efforts and protect civilians.
The mission called on all parties to exercise maximum restraint and intensify efforts to prevent further escalation.
