Roumieh Prison witnessed an uprising in protest against passing the extension without approving the general amnesty law.
The Prisoners’ Committee in Lebanon said in a statement:
“An uprising in Roumieh Prison in rejection of passing the extension without approving the general amnesty law, and in condemnation of the Military Court’s decision to release detainees who have only been detained for a few days with a $20 bail, while our cases have remained unresolved for 13 years and the rulings are vindictive and political, ranging from the death penalty and life imprisonment to long sentences. We demand the approval of the general amnesty before matters reach undesirable consequences, as the state has closed all rational avenues before the prisoners.”
