Government reviews ceasefire efforts and return of displaced amid ongoing crisis

Information Minister Paul Morcos outlined the outcomes of the daily ministerial meeting held at the Grand Serail, chaired by Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, where discussions focused on the ceasefire and measures to facilitate the safe return of displaced citizens in coordination with the army and security forces, along with ensuring essential services at reception centers.

Defense Minister Michel Menassa briefed ministers on the field situation and conditions for the return to southern areas, noting ongoing army efforts to repair key bridges. He also cited the human toll, with 2,196 killed and 7,185 injured.

Salam also heard from Disaster Management Unit head Zahi Chahine, who detailed the services provided to displaced people and preparations for the post-ceasefire phase, including challenges and facilitation measures. Interior Minister Ahmad Hajjar reported the arrest of nine individuals involved in celebratory gunfire, with further investigations ongoing.

Energy Minister Joe Saddi reviewed fuel supply updates, while ministers presented their respective relief efforts and progress in receiving international aid.

Separately, Morcos raised concerns over attacks on photographers, stressing the need to ensure journalists’ safety. Hajjar confirmed that the incident in Debbine is under investigation by army intelligence and Internal Security Forces.
