The National Litani River Authority said that, as part of its mission to protect water resources and combat pollution sources, it has uncovered that an industrial facility operating in stone manufacturing in the Marj area, owned by a man identified as Omar Saleh, is discharging polluted industrial wastewater directly into the Berdawni River, in serious violation of environmental and water laws.
It added that it contacted the Baalbek-Hermel Information Branch of the Internal Security Forces, which, upon instructions from the competent judiciary and in coordination with the authority, carried out field investigations to document the violation and determine responsibility.
The authority stressed that this constitutes a direct assault on water resources, public health, and the agricultural environment, threatening the safety of rivers that are a vital lifeline in the Bekaa.
It therefore called on the relevant judicial, security, and administrative authorities to take immediate legal action, including the immediate closure of the facility until the causes of pollution are removed and full compliance with environmental and legal standards is ensured.
