OCHA: Gaza’s humanitarian situation remains dire

The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in Palestine has warned that the living situation in Gaza remains “dire”.
Most people are displaced and “exposed to continued health and environmental risks, while reports of attacks hitting residential areas continue,” OCHA said.
“Many residential areas across Gaza remain unsafe, exposed to recurrent strikes, shelling and shooting,” it added.
Access to basic services is limited, with inconsistent clean water availability and impaired waste management systems unable to address health concerns, including those linked to rodents.
In the first 11 days of May, only every second aid truck arriving from Egypt was able to offload at Israeli-controlled crossings, according to data tracked by the Logistics Cluster.
“Humanitarian operations continue to be undermined by restrictions on the import of critical spare parts, back-up generators and other equipment, as well as shortages of essential inputs, including fuel and engine oil,” OCHA said. Operations are also constrained by bans on the work of key partners, movement restrictions within the Gaza Strip, damaged roads and infrastructure, and continued strikes, gunfire and insecurity, it added.
