Kataeb: Hezbollah blocks talks to preserve Iran’s control in Lebanon

The Kataeb political bureau met under the chairmanship of party leader Samy Gemayel to discuss the latest political and security developments in Lebanon. Following the meeting, the bureau issued the following statement:

- The political bureau calls for the broadest possible national support for the negotiations currently taking place in Washington, which the Lebanese state has chosen to pursue in order to consolidate the ceasefire, secure a full Israeli withdrawal, end ongoing attacks and the state of war, ensure the release of detainees, and guarantee the safe return of displaced residents to their villages.

The campaign being waged by Hezbollah against President Joseph Aoun and against the negotiation track itself serves as further evidence of the group’s determination to keep Lebanon and its people as leverage and a bargaining card in Iran’s hands, at the expense of southern Lebanon and its residents.

- The political bureau considers the removal of displaced persons’ tents from Beirut’s waterfront a necessary step toward addressing a situation that has become a growing security burden on the capital and its residents, particularly amid the lack of order in the area and the use of the site for purposes unrelated to humanitarian needs.

The Camille Chamoun Sports City Stadium, which has been equipped to host displaced residents and provide for their daily needs, offers the most appropriate solution to address the humanitarian aspect of the issue.

- The political bureau expresses concern over recurring incidents of school violence and serious psychological harm in Lebanon, particularly among teenagers, urging the relevant authorities to prioritize the safety and well-being of children and young people and to strengthen sound educational and social guidance amid the country’s difficult circumstances.

The government must activate child protection strategies in educational and healthcare institutions and pass the necessary laws to combat bullying and prevent abuse and mistreatment.

Families and educational institutions ought to approach the issue with the utmost seriousness and responsibility.
