The Beirut Disaster and Crisis Management Room in the Governorate of the City of Beirut said in a statement that, based on the directives of Beirut Governor Judge Marwan Abboud, the Beirut Municipal Police have completed the removal of all tents that were set up in the BIEL area, whether on properties belonging to the Municipality of Beirut or on surrounding private lands, as part of a plan to regulate sites established during the displacement period and restore properties to their original condition.
The operation included the transfer of around 70 displaced people who had no shelter to the Camille Chamoun Sports City, where suitable accommodation was secured for them in coordination with the relevant authorities, ensuring continued humanitarian care.
It also involved the evacuation and removal of tents used by individuals who did not meet the criteria of displaced persons, after it was found that they had exploited the displacement conditions to benefit from humanitarian aid designated for displaced families. All such tents were removed.
In parallel with the removal operations, the waste management company RAMCO began early in the morning, with the support of the Beirut Municipal Police and Internal Security Forces, carrying out a full cleaning operation at the site, including clearing debris and waste and rehabilitating the area in preparation for restoring it to its previous state.
These measures come as part of Beirut Governorate’s efforts to regulate public and private property, maintain public safety and the urban landscape, while taking humanitarian considerations into account and ensuring appropriate alternatives for eligible social cases, in line with the gradual return to normal conditions across the capital.
