A series of explosions caused by explosive devices rocked the area near the hotel where French President Emmanuel Macron is staying in the Syrian capital, Damascus, coinciding with the second day of his unprecedented official visit to Syria.
Two explosions occurred in succession near the hotel, but Macron's motorcade had left the premises shortly beforehand en route to the presidential palace for talks with Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa. No information has yet been released about any casualties or the nature of the explosions, and no group has claimed responsibility.
Macron is holding official talks today with al-Sharaa in the first visit by the leader of a major Western country to Syria since the ouster of former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
