The U.S. Embassy in Beirut has issued a warning about increasingly sophisticated scams, noting that fraudsters can now even spoof official phone numbers.
In a statement, the embassy urged people in Lebanon and abroad to exercise caution and verify any unexpected requests, particularly those seeking personal information.
"Not sure if the call is genuine? Always remember that the U.S. Embassy in Beirut does not make unsolicited calls requesting personal information, especially if you do not have official dealings with the embassy," the statement said.
The embassy advised the public to remain vigilant and rely only on official sources for information.
