Israel Prepares for Possible Escalation... Amid a Request From Washington

Israel is preparing for possible escalation scenarios with Iran amid the ongoing military confrontation between Washington and Tehran, with Israeli assessments indicating that the chances of reaching a lasting agreement between the two sides remain limited.

The Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth reported that the Israeli security establishment is closely monitoring developments in the escalation, while the army is preparing for the possibility that the confrontation could expand to Israel, either through direct attacks from Iran or via other regional fronts.

The newspaper added that the Israeli military has increased the readiness of its air defense systems, updated its operational plans, and expanded its database of targets inside Iran in preparation for any developments on the ground.

According to Israeli officials, any broad military response to an Iranian attack would be carried out in full coordination with the United States. They said Washington has so far asked Israel not to directly join the confrontation, while military and intelligence coordination between the two sides continues.

The newspaper noted that Israeli political circles believe Iran’s commitment to any temporary understandings faces major challenges, saying the future of negotiations depends on decisions by the Iranian leadership and its ability to rein in the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

Trump-Netanyahu call

In the same context, the newspaper revealed that US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held a phone call discussing developments in the escalation with Iran. No date has yet been set for a meeting that the two sides had previously announced they intended to hold, as the US administration remains focused on managing the current crisis.

These assessments coincided with the announcement by the US Central Command (CENTCOM) that it had carried out a new round of strikes against Iranian military targets, saying the strikes came in response to attacks that targeted commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.
