Hormuz to Reopen? Has Iran Agreed to a Deal?

8/2/2026 1:38:13 PM

Israeli Channel 12 reported, according to diplomats, that “Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has agreed to a settlement drafted by Qatar and the United States to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.”

The diplomats added: “Araghchi’s agreement to a settlement to reopen the Strait of Hormuz led US President Donald Trump to cancel the attack on Iran,” noting that “Qataris are negotiating with Iran to secure the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ support for the understandings regarding the Strait of Hormuz.”

Later, the Fars News Agency quoted a source close to the negotiating team as saying that there is no agreement to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and that reports to the contrary are false.
