Qassem Accuses Lebanese Authorities of 'Helping' Israel

Hezbollah Secretary General Sheikh Naim Qassem accused the Lebanese authorities of helping Israel rather than Lebanon, calling for dialogue with the “resistance” and for efforts to restore internal unity instead of making what he described as “free concessions.”

Qassem said that without the resistance’s resilience and the support it has received, “nothing would have been achieved,” adding that there would be little hope of securing an Israeli withdrawal in the very near future.

At the same time, he welcomed the Lebanese Army’s deployment south of the Litani River, saying that “the only option for the Israeli enemy is a complete withdrawal” and insisting that Israel “will withdraw and will not remain in Lebanon.”

Qassem also urged those “betting on the United States and Israel” to rally around national unity and sovereignty and work to end the occupation. He argued that “negotiating under bombardment is incompatible with national sovereignty,” and said that all attacks against Lebanon had taken place “under US supervision and approval.”

He added that Hezbollah would “work with full force” to provide shelter, carry out repairs and support reconstruction, while calling on the Lebanese state to assume full responsibility and cooperate with friendly countries.

On another front, Qassem said there was no objection to a public meeting between Hezbollah and the Syrian leadership “when both sides deem the time appropriate.”
