Razi el Hage: “The Deep State Still Controls Parliament”

Lebanese Forces bloc MP Razi el Hage said he submitted a draft law two and a half years ago to link notaries public with real estate registries as a permanent solution. He added that Finance Minister Yassine Jaber had told him several times: “Find me a building” so that the Metn real estate registry office could be relocated there.
Speaking during an interview on the "Beirut Lyom" program, El Hage said that “the funds allocated for paving the Al-Atchaneh road will not be enough,” adding: “I had conducted a survey of 18 sectors in Metn, and we can no longer afford to neglect the area.”
He said: “We do not have a legislative council. I have submitted 27 draft laws, only two of which were referred. The deep state is the one controlling Parliament, which is why we called for shortening its term.”
El Hage warned that “Israel will not distinguish between Hezbollah and the Lebanese state if war breaks out again,” stressing that “we have no option but negotiations; otherwise, we will be heading toward a devastating war.”
He also expressed his support for the adoption of a general amnesty law, saying it was needed “to address cases of injustice.” He added that the law “has been carefully studied and includes exceptions,” saying: “What we did was prevent its approval in a piecemeal manner, and the ball is now in the court of Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri.”
El Hage stressed that “the state must take itself more seriously and keep pace with its work through modern legislation.” He added: “What Lebanon lacks is political will, and we are pushing in that direction.”
He said that “the centralized system has failed to protect pluralism,” adding: “We support any law that safeguards it within the boundaries of Lebanese geography. We need a decentralized system to ensure a thriving economy and a dignified life for the Lebanese people.”
El Hage also said there was “no disagreement between us and the Progressive Socialist Party,” adding that Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea “is steering matters in the right direction.”
