After Syrian rockets hit a number of Bekaa regions, leaving many injured, President of the Republic Michel Suleiman vowed to respect the sovereignty of Lebanon.
Media said that President Suleiman had requested from Foreign and Expatriates Minister to file two complaints, one to the Arab League and the other to the Security Council against the Syrian violations however the latter disobeyed.
Meanwhile, diplomatic sources in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs explained to al-Markaziya that the request of President Suleiman is still under discussion between him and caretaker Premier Najib Mikati denying all rumors issued yesterday and today by media saying that the President of the country will file a direct complaint through Lebanon’s delegate to Security Council Nawaf Salam.
Sources said only the foreign minister was allowed to hold contacts and give instructions to diplomatic missions abroad.
Sources pointed out that matters are clear now. In fact, there is a threat to lodge a complaint to avoid such Syrian violations in the future. During the meeting between Minister Mansour and the President of the Republic, the latter did not ask to lodge a complaint but to prepare a file documenting all attacks in order to be lodged when resumed.
Sources also denied rumors saying that Speaker Nabih Berri intervened in the ongoing work of the Ministry of foreign Affairs to impede any request from the Presidency. “There is no conflict between both Presidents and the relation between them is according to laws in vigor”, sources added.
