Study: 15 minutes walk against diabetes

A short walk after each meal could prevent older people developing type-2 diabetes, an American study has found.

Researchers at George Washington University have suggested that post-meal walks could control blood sugar as well as one long walk.

Elevated blood sugar after meals could increase the risk of type-2 diabetes and cardiovascular diseases as well, so resting after eating is – the worst thing one can do – doctors said.

The US study found that three 15-minutes walks were as effective at reducing blood sugar over a 24-hour period as one long, 45 minutes walk, but much easier to moderate by older people. And walking after a meal was significantly more effective at blunting the potentially damaging elevations in post-meal blood sugar observed in older people.
