Chinese peacekeepers honored in Lebanon

Chinese peacekeepers received medals for their outstanding peacekeeping efforts in Lebanon on Tuesday.
The honors were presented by the UN in the presence of Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) Force Commander Maj. Gen Paolo Serra and Chinese Ambassador to Lebanon Jiang Jiang and other delegates.

At the ceremony, Maj. General Serra spoke highly of the Chinese peacekeepers, expressing gratitude for their contributions in mine clearance, project maintenance and medical services. He said they bolstered the cause of peace in southern Lebanon and even in the whole region.
Engineers from Chinese peacekeeping force gave Chinese-style gong and drum performances after the award ceremony.

China has sent 11 contingents of peacekeepers to Lebanon since 2006. The latest group of 335 people, including 275 engineers responsible for mine clearance near the Israeli-Lebanon border. They have already destroyed 133 landmines.
The other 60 are providing medical services for UNIFIL and local residents.
