The Lebanese Kataeb party called on local political rivals to reject any foreign meddling, stressing the need to salvage national unity and make it flawless in order to guide the country to a complete independence and perfect sovereignty.

In a statement issued following its weekly meeting, the party's politburo marked the anniversary of October 13, 1990, as it voiced fears over a possible recurrence of such experience. The party hailed all the martyrs who had sacrificed their lives for the country's sake.

The politburo condemned the protracted bottleneck plaguing the cabinet formation, warning it could crawl into the presidential elections so as to forge constitutional vacuum and bring Lebanon back to gloomy eras.

The party called for paying attention to the remarks voiced by Prime Minister-designate Tammam Salam, “which were like a political notice about the circumstances of the obstruction and the crippling demands that are preventing the formation of the new cabinet.”

"The politburo calls for shortening the crisis through forming a responsible, all-embracing cabinet which can communicate with the international community on Lebanon's urgent demands," the statement read.

The party voiced hope that pragmatic measures would be put into effect in terms of monitoring the country's borders and addressing the Syrian refugee crisis. It also urged the caretaker cabinet to take the necessary measures to ensure the safety of borderline areas' residents who have been enduring Syrian shelling. In this regard, the politburo stressed the need to summon the Syrian ambassador to convey an official strict message.

The Lebanese Kataeb party renewed call for revitalizing efforts aiming to devise a new electoral law. It also called for reviewing the ISF's decision to assign the task to quell building violations to municipalities, noting that some local councils are intendedly turning a blind eye for political, sectarian and financial motives.

The politburo didn't fail to pay tribute to late prominent singer Wadih al-Safi as it extended condolences to his family.

The party hoped the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Adha will witness the release of the nine Shiite pilgrims who were abducted in Syria's Aazaz as well as the two Turkish pilots and the two bishops kidnapped near Aleppo. It also hoped that the Lebanese Kataeb member Boutros Khawand and all the detainees who are believed to be in Syrian regime prisons would all be freed.
