Tymoshenko may soon go free says EU Commissioner

The European Commissioner for Enlargement Stefan Fuele has again said he believes the imprisoned Ukrainian opposition leader and former prime minister Yulia Tymoshenko is close to being allowed to go to Germany for medical treatment.

Tymoshenko suffers from back problems but since being jailed in 2011 for alleged abuse of office her supporters claim President Yanukovich has done everything to ensure she cannot make a comeback, and that included denying her vital specialist medical care in Berlin. Tymoshenko fears treatment in Ukraine and until now the EU has backed her, telling Kiev a crucial new trade deal is dependent on her release.
