U.N. Under Secretary General for political affairs, Jeffrey Feltman, labeled Hezbollah members taking part in Syria's fighting in Syria as "soldiers of fortune," saying the party's involvement in neighboring crisis violates Lebanese government' policy of dissociation.
In an interview published in al-Hayat newspaper, Feltman accused Hezbollah of contributing to the rise of sectarian tensions linked to Syria's crisis.
According to the UN diplomat, Iran is concerned about the sectarian aspects of the ongoing conflicty in Syria, saying they have spread across the region, notably in Lebanon and Iraq, and could "go even further."
Regarding the UN-brokered Geneva II peace conference, Feltman, who dubbed Hezbollah as "soldier of fortune", said the party cannot take part of the political process that can lead to a solution as it is fighting alongside one side of the conflict.
Feltman said both Hezbollah and the Nusra Front will continue to have influence on the ground as long as the fighting continues, stressing that the Syrian people are the ones who should decide their country's future.
