Geagea says Tripoli disarmament is a key priority for caretaker cabinet

Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea called on the incumbent government to hold an extraordinary session in order to forge an arms-free Tripoli, deeming the disarmament of belligerent factions as a priority since the citizens' subsistence is the key issue for a caretaker cabinet to address.

In remarks published in Annahar newspaper, Geagea wondered what was the reason still preventing local officials from demilitarizing the northern city, noting that al-Mustaqbal Movement, which represents the majority of the residents, as well as other local rivals have voiced support for such action.

The LF leader said that standing idly by the ongoing Tripoli violence is a crime, slamming officials for shrugging off their responsibility.
