Al-Mustaqbal parliamentary bloc considered the assassination of former Minister Mohammad Shatah as a reminder and a warning that the criminals who killed PM Rafik Hariri as well as all the other martyrs are still at large and that their misdeeds remain unpunished.

"They continue to commit crimes, bombings, murders and intimidation, caring the least about the fact that the Special Tribunal for Lebanon will start its work in few days," the bloc said in a statement issued following its weekly meeting on Wednesday.

"It is the same offender which seeks to dash coexistence among Lebanese and undermine the values of openness and moderation," the statement read.

The bloc said it was convinced that the Lebanese people would not give in to terrorism, criminals and tyrants, no matter what.

"We believe that the Lebanese will struggle peacefully to liberate Lebanon from illegal weapons and from the Syrian and Iranian guardianship causing the destruction of Lebanon's present and tarnishing the image of its future," the bloc stressed.

Al-Mustaqbal lawmakers urged the judicial authorities to uncover the details of Shatah's assassination and called for referring this case to the Special Tribunal for Lebanon, same as the previous crimes.

The statement also sternly denounced the terrorist attack that targeted citizens in the Beirut suburb of Haret Hreik and considered those who died as martyrs for all Lebanon.

"They are innocent victims paying the price of a major sin committed by Hezbollah which implicated Lebanon and the Lebanese in wars and conflicts with which they had nothing to do."

The bloc also considered that "the explosion in Haret Hreik is another face of terrorism which was lured into Lebanon by engaging into the Syrian fighting, alongside the oppressive regime."

The bloc demanded President Michel Sleiman and Premier-designate Tammam Salam to form an apolitical new government in order to pave way for required breakthroughs and allow addressing Lebanon's urgent security, economic and social problems.

The lawmakers didn't fail also to hail the Saudi grant aiming to support the Lebanese army whose major security accomplishment in terms of arresting the terrorist Majed al-Majed was also praised.

"The bloc finally denounces the torching of the library owned by Father Ibrahim Sarrouj in Tripoli and demands the judiciary and the security agencies to apprehend the culprits who committed out this heinous crime," the statement concluded.
