Women have always participated in military battles throughout the history; even the Lebanese civil war witnessed female military participation.

But fighting Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), the Qaeda-linked most extremist group which is known for its heinous crimes, raises the eyebrows.

Syria's Ras al-Ain witnesses violent clashes between ISIS and Kurdish brigade of People's Protection Units (YPG), backed by a significant number of female fighters and commanders.

Ever since Syrian troops lost control of northern regions predominated by Kurds, the areas are witnessing fierce battles between ISIS and YPG which includes a huge number of female fighters and commanders that make up as much as 40 percent of the fighters who count 40,000.

Female fighters are also enrolled in the violent clashes against the "jihadists", where their strongholds are located nearby, knowing that many of female Kurds were killed

Beside the military role, female fighters attempt to create entertaining moments, every night if possible, they gather to perform songs to commemorate their martyrs and to raise their morale.
