Marada Movement leader MP Suleiman Frangieh said Tuesday that national unity is important for protecting Lebanon from the threat of terrorism, calling on all parties to assume their responsibility.

Frangieh reiterated his support and confidence in Lebanese army whose leadership rejected any settlement with gunmen, pointing out that "we are still at the beginning of the journey, the coming days will show us what they will bring."

In an exclusive interview with Marada official website, the lawmaker opined that the Christians preferred the void over a weak president, stressing that the parliament's term extension is now a fact that some parties are attempting to hide.

The Maronite politician stated that he will partake in the parliamentary session to extend the parliament's term in order to give it the required legitimacy.

"As a Christian I will attend the session, as other colleagues announced that they will in order to grant the session the required legitimacy, but let's see who will partake and who won't," Frangieh noted.

Asked to comment on the link between presidential void and the extension of the parliament's term, Marada leader said that both issues cannot be linked, at the end there are specific circumstances that are hindering the presidential polls.

"The president will remain Maronite, but why the void is taken negatively? There is a Christian agreement on declining a weak president," he added.

Commenting on the attempts to establish a state in Lebanon for takfiris stretching from Tripoli, Akkar reaching to Homs and Mosul, Frangieh said this project will remain a dream which will never be realized due to the conscience of officials mainly in Sunni sect who are the pillars to prevent this dangerous project.

"Tripoli and Akkar residents and patriotic and they will make the project fail," he stressed.

"Saydnaya resisted due to its residents, the same goes for Nobol and Zahraa, and Ain Arab as well, with all my respect to these regions and their inhabitants, but we are holding more onto our land. We never feared a threat and we will never do, we are ready to fight and defend," he confirmed.

"No need to fear anything threat," Frangieh concluded.
