Aoun: Cancellation of Independence Day celebrations unjustified

Change and Reform Parliamentary Bloc Head, MP Michel Aoun, considered Saturday that "the reasons behind cancelling Independence Day celebrations are unjustifiable since the President of the Republic does not make a country or a people, but instead, it is the people who create the state, republic and independence."

Speaking in a radio interview to "Al-Mada" Station, Aoun regretted "not having lived a true independence in Lebanon, for those responsible for solutions to the nation's pending issues are used to waiting for answers from the outside."

"This is very painful," said Aoun, noting that "all our crises are caused by the outside while we still await solutions from foreign countries."

"The Lebanese people have always been accustomed to celebrating Independence, even when Lebanon was occupied," said Aoun. "Today, however, Lebanon is independent, yet they do not wish to commemorate this occasion," he added.

Aoun concluded by urging all the Lebanese to remain unified in the face of dangers posed by terrorism.
