Former Syrian vice-president Abdul Halim Khaddam fiercely attacked Iran on Thursday labeling it as the spearhead of evil which feeds militias in Iraq, Hezbollah in Lebanon and Houthi rebels in Yemen.

In an interview with al-Watan daily, the dissident official pointed out that if Iran failed in Syrian then Hezbollah Party will vanish within two months, and all other militias will meet the same fate.

Khaddam reiterated that he knew about former PM Rafic Hariri plot assassination two weeks before, accusing the Syrian president of plotting the scheme.

"I knew that the current Syrian regime is plotting for Hariri's assassination, and I left Lebanon to inform the late PM about the scheme," Khaddam added.

Khaddam admitted that Syrian president Bashar Assad used to hate Hariri very much.

"In a meeting at Baath Party headquarters two weeks before Hariri's assassination, Syrian president Assad said that Hariri is an agent for France and US and he forms a threat to Lebanon and Syria. At that time I was certain that he will be liquidated, so I secretly headed to Lebanon to meet with Hariri to inform him about the plot. But he was not convinced and one week later he was assassinated," Khaddam concluded.
