Meet Kataeb Party's Newly Minted Politburo
7/2/2015 12:13:27 AM
The Kataeb party held the second round of its politburo elections today, nominating candidates outside a seniority-based system.
Six members were needed, including the party’s quota of at least two female candidates.
Three females and five male candidates announced their bid for six posts.
The elections were swift given that the board, comprised of 16 officials, two vice presidents and party’s chief, had named, in less than half an hour, the second batch of its members.
The final tallied votes reflected an undisputed accord inside the party’s bureau.
What the General Secretary of the party failed to mention, was portrayed by the party members: Serge Abou Hala’, Denise Samaha and Rita Boulos are very close to President Sami Gemayel whereas Asaad Omeira, Georges Chaanin and Elias al-Asmar are allied with MP Nadim Gemayel.
But what about the unsuccessful candidates and the failed attempts to persuade them into stepping down from the race?
The newly minted politburo is set to hold its first meeting next week, chaired by its new president, MP Sami Gemayel.
