Gabriel al-Murr: A Lesson to All of Us

The man behind MTV is a beacon of freedom in a country that has suffered from the severe repercussions of local and foreign oppression over several decades.

Former MP Gabriel al-Murr was handed an honorary shield by the Free Nationalists Party whose leader and supporters we thank for a show of recognition that many others failed to display.

We were all honored by association and through the lesson that this man, who stood in the face of a power that intimidated all the rest, and paid a hefty price for his belief in the freedom of opinion: he lost his parliamentary seat and the network he worked so hard to establish was shut down.

Al-Murr addressed the crowd during the ceremony hosted by the party to commemorate the events of August 7, stressing the importance of freedom in a country that was once plagued by Syrian occupation.
