Lebanese army's intelligence arrested several infiltrators during the rallies in Beirut's Downtown among them one Palestinian, while the army cordoned off the area to prevent riots on the roads leading to Riad al-Solh Square while anti-riots forces were deployed to control the protest.

A military source renewed Wednesday the army's commitment to the freedom of expression of rightful demands.

In a short interview with al-Joumhouriyah daily, the source stressed that as much as the army is keen on preserving freedom, it is also keen on safeguarding the private and public properties and institutions.

"The civil peace, national interest and border control are sacred and mustn’t be jeopardized at any price," the same source added.

As for the investigations launched into the riots that erupted during the rallies, Judge Dany Zeenny resumed his questioning of detained civilians and servicemen who were on duty in Beirut's Downtown, where the clashes had been taking place since Saturday.

The probe is scheduled to end by today.

Al-Joumhouriyah has also learned that the investigations revealed important facts, mainly when footage was drawn from surveillance cameras installed in the area in addition to live footage broadcast by local TV channels.

The sorting operation between the vandals and regular protesters has ended. Dozens of individuals were identified by the security agencies and will be pursued for assaulting security forces members, ransacking shops and robbing restaurants.

Al-Joumhouriyah also reported that most of the detained young men stem from Khandaq al-Ghamiq, Hay al-Lija, Bashoura and some are from Bekaa.

"The case of non-Lebanese nationals who partook in the riots such as Syrians, Palestinians and Sudanese will be separated from the "You Stink" case and they will be charged of inciting violence and riots," the source noted.

On the other hand, State Prosecutor Judge Samir Hammoud told the same newspaper that the investigations have proved that no live ammunition was fired during the protests.

"All sustained injuries were due to rubber bullets," Hammoud said, noting the probe is ongoing.
