The real American position in regard to the promotion of Lebanese officers has finally surfaced following a series of sublets communications.
Closed doors talks which hinted at that plausibility of promoting only 10 Brigade Generals out 450 for political reasons spawned uproar inside the military institution.
According to al-Joumhouria newspaper, some used the foreign political forces as a façade to insinuate and promote the US administration’s support of said promotions, in an attempt to materialize the decision that would inevitably shake the army structure.
Collected information from different sources however refutes any American exigence. On the contrary, reports corroborates the US’ solid support of the military institution as the only legitimate defense force in Lebanon, and attest that bilateral relations are maintained with the institutions as a whole, not specific figureheads.
The United States reiterates, as in multiple occasions, its commitment to reinforce the army’s capacities.
Following Arsal clashes, the US hastened to weaponize the armed forces for preemptive and defense operations, as part of endeavors to safeguard the country’s welfare and ensure security on the borders, as well thwarting extremists’ terror plots.
According to aforementioned source, the US do not interfere with the army’s internal affairs, and constrict its role to aid and support of leadership’ decision-making.
